Children with ADHD have problems with completing tasks, following rules, and noncompliance with parental and adult requests. This leads to defiance, avoidance of boring activities, a lack of follow through and can result in a battle of control between parents and their child. Daily routines such as; self hygiene, following rules, compliance to parental requests, getting ready in the morning, going to bed, and doing homework can become a source of conflict. This leads to increased friction in the home and can cause marital distress.

Children with ADHD are at increased risk in school due to problems with attention, avoidance of boring tasks, not completing assignments, and behavior problems. This can produce increased friction between parents and the child at home. Conflict with siblings may also increase.
